THE women's section of Blackheath Harriers, Bromley, secured their second promotion of the season as they won the Division Two title of the Kent League at Deangate, winning the divisional title by a massive 366 points, despite being beaten in the last match by Paddock Wood.

Having already been promoted in the McDonald's Girls' League, they will be looking for a hat-trick of promotions at the final Southern Womens League match of the season at Norman Park this Saturday.

Currently second in the table, a solid performance will ensure one of the five promotion places.

At Deangate, the best dislays came in the under-13s group, where Serita Solomon leapt 1.30m to win the high jump and Nina Akif took the long jump with 4.17m.

The success of the women will prove useful with the news that it is proposed to make the annual Cup competition for seniors a joint-scoring event.

A 64-team competition is suggested with only the teams in the top two divisions of the National men's and women's league guaranteed places.

Blackheath's women's team qualified for the cup semi-final last year and a combined team could prove an

interesting innovation. Meanwhile, some of those missing from the fixture at Deangate were representing Kent at the Southern Inter-Counties meeting at Walthamstow.

Louisa Guthrie (pictured below) was second in the B-string 100m in 12.6sec and fifth in the A-string 200m in 26.1sec.

Jennie Butler timed 10:32.6 for third in the 3,000m, while Sandra Alaneme leapt 10.46m for sixth in the triple-jump.

In the men's competition, Dan Ayrton was second in the 5,000m in 15:30.1.

Super veteran Gordon Hickey was in action at the South Eastern Throwers' Club competition at Ewell.

The 67-year-old has been competing for the club's National League eam this season and, in one match, threw against Olympic silver medallist Adam Nelson of the USA.

Competing in his own over-65 age group, Hickey was a comfortable winner of the throws in the pentathlon with his most notable effort being a 12.29m shot-putt.

The club is always looking for new members, male of

female, of all ages and abilities. For further details, call Dave Liston on 01322 663504 or visit the website at: ww.blackheath-harriers.org.uk
