THIS is the shocking moment a car ploughs into a lamp post at speed during a Christmas Day crash in Southampton.
CCTV shows the car colliding with an oncoming vehicle before veering off the road and smashing into the metal post on Thornhill Park Road.
The video, taken from inside Sangha Pharmacy, shows the car coming to an abrupt stop, before shocked passers-by rush to help.
A passenger of the car appears to get out of the damaged vehicle before walking around.
It comes as police confirmed they attended a crash on Thornhill Park last night (Christmas Day), around 6.35pm.
Officers say injuries were sustained in the crash, although they are said not to be serious.
They say one driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
On Twitter, Hants Road Policing said: "Collision on Thornhill Park Road, Southampton which has just been cleared.
"Fortunately, the injuries not too serious but one driver arrested."
One person to comment on the crash was the owner of Sangha Pharmacy owner, Ravinder Sangha.
The 38-year-old said: "It looks from the CCTV like the car is going fast. The impact is huge.
"The car raises off the ground and nearly knocks the lamp post down.
"It's miraculous no-one was walking past at the time because it could have been fatal - especially at that time, people do go for walks along there."
One resident Paul Prentice, 48, a telecommunications worker said: βIt was pretty horrendous.
"There was a wheel half way down the road and the car was in bits. It was chaos.β
Just months ago staff at Lallys convenience store on the same street witnessed a lorry coming towards them and crashing into the traffic lights outside the shop.
