POLICE are in the process of speaking to additional witnesses following an attack involving a dog's ear being ripped off.
Layla the springer spaniel has spent the weekend in intensive care following a brutal attack by two dogs thought to be Staffordshire bull terriers.
The beloved 12-year-old pet had her head ripped open following the savage incident at Edward Avenue, Bishopstoke, around 5pm, on May 1.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We continue to investigate the matter and have identified the owner of the dogs, who both understands the need for our involvement and is supporting the police investigation.
"We are in the process of speaking to additional witnesses. I respectfully ask that no further information is discussed across social media, as it is likely that it will hinder the police investigation."
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to ring 101 quoting reference 44200153831.
