HE was a hairdresser to the stars who boasted a whole host of celebrity clients.

During the course of his 60-year career Trevor Mitchell cut Kevin Keegan's famous perm and also tended to the locks of household names such as Meridian presenter Fred Dinenage.

Former Saints manager Lawrie McMenemy performed the opening ceremony at Trevor's new salon in Sarisbury in 2011.

His celebrity status also brought him into contact with A-listers such as Cliff Richard and Gloria Hunniford, plus boxer Frank Bruno and The Cheeky Girls.

When perma-tanned TV presenter David Dickinson turned his hand to hairdressing, he asked Trevor to give him a helping hand.

Trevor gave the antiques expert, nicknamed the Duke, a masterclass in how to cut hair in a pilot episode for his new daytime show The David Dickinson Show.

The presenter then challenged Trevor to break his own world record for the fastest ever haircut by allowing him only a minute to complete the cut in a feature called Duelling with the Duke.

Trevor said: “When David said I only had a minute to complete the hair cut I told him it couldn’t be done. But I managed it – and then after some tips from me so did he.

“David told the model he was going to give him a “Beckham” in under a minute.

“I didn’t think he’d do it but actually I think he probably beat me – he did a great job and his hair cut looked terrific!

“The audience absolutely loved it."
