SOUTHAMPTON has seen a sharp rise in its Covid-19 infection rate.

The rate has risen to 14.7 for every 100,000 residents from the previous figure of 9.5, with 37 new cases, according to new data from Public Health England.

Other parts of Hampshire have also seen increases.

The infection rate at Eastleigh has doubled from 3.0 to 6.0, with four new cases.

In the New Forest the figure has gone from 7.8 to 11.7, with 14 new cases.

Fareham has gone from 6.9 to 14.6, with eight in new cases. Neighbouring Gosport has seen its infection rate increase from 5.9 to 7.1, with five new cases.

Winchester has seen a decrease. The city's infection rate has dropped from 8.0 to 5.6, with seven new cases.
