A MAN passed out drunk on his victim’s bed with two knives and a pair of batons.

Matthew Soan smashed his way into a woman’s house with bricks, a court heard.

The 41-year-old then phoned her and threatened to kill himself.

Having covered her bathroom floor in urine he then fell asleep on her bed with knives and two batons on October 2 this year.

Prosecution barrister, James Wing told Southampton Crown Court on Thursday how Soan formerly of Botley Road, Southampton, called the woman repeatedly leaving about 70 messages left on her phone between August and October.

“Habitually drunk” these messages included threats to kill her, other people - he even warned that the police would not stop him.

Daily Echo:

Mr Wing told how during an incident in July, Soan had got up right into the woman’s face and threatened her, again claiming he was going to kill himself.

A victim impact statement read out in court said how the woman now struggles to sleep, and how her home does not feel safe.

Furthermore, she had gone to a doctor for sleeping tablets.

Soan who has a caution for ABH against the same woman was later charged with criminal damage, and harassment to which he pleaded guilty.

Defending, Keely Harvey, said how at the time of the offences her client felt isolated from his family because of covid and that he had fallen into a depression that led him into drink.

Ms Keely added that Soan feels remorse and that he wants to move on with his life.

She argued for a suspended sentence and for a punishment of unpaid work.

However, Judge Peter Henry considered the offences serious and said how the series of incidents had had a considerable impact of the woman.

He described the contents on Soan’s messages as extremely unpleasant.

Judge Henry went on to say the woman would not have known if Soan had intended to use the knives or not.

Soan who has been on remand at HMP Winchester since October 5 was jailed for nine months.
