RESCUE teams rushed to the aid of a man trapped in waist-deep mud on the banks of the River Hamble.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised crews from Hightown and Redbridge, plus the water rescue team from Fareham.

Coastguards and Hamble Lifeboat also took part in the rescue, which last almost two hours.

Writing on social media the lifeboat crew said: "Hamble Lifeboat were tasked to a multi-agency response along with Hill Head Coastguard Rescue Team and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to rescue a person stuck in waist-deep mud at Manor Farm Country Park.

"Please make sure you take care around the River Hamble, particularly at low tide, there are lots of areas of deep mud.

"Always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if you spot someone in difficulty."

The incident began at around 3.30pm on Saturday.

Hill Head Coastguard Rescue Team posted: "Tasked alongside Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, Hamble Lifeboat and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to assist a person stuck in the mud at Manor Farm Country Park.

"Coastguard officers successfully extricated the person to a place of safety for medical checks. All units released."
