CIVIC chiefs are backing plans to transform the eastern gateway to Totton.
Town councillors are urging New Forest District Council to approve proposals to build 11 flats on a Commercial Road site that is dominated by advertising hoardings.
If the scheme goes ahead the hoardings - and buildings at the western end of the site - will be demolished.
In a letter to NFDC the town council says: "The proposal is for eleven one-bedroom flats which would meet housing need.
"Good transport links out of town, easy access to the train station and walking distance to the town centre.
"The design has been well thought out, with landscaping to the front and amenity area to the rear which would enhance the local area."
