POLICE have said they do not currently believe an incident which left a man with a puncture wound to the groin involved a criminal offence.
As previously reported, police were called at 5.24pm on May 19 to a report of an injured man in Howard Road in the Shirley area of the city.
On arrival, officers found a man in his 40’s with a 'puncture' wound to his groin.
He was treated at University Hospital Southampton and his injuries were not considered life threatening.
Although a spokesperson for South Central Ambulance service described the incident at the time as a "suspected serious assault", police have today stated that they do not currently believe a criminal offence had taken place.

The spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "We have now spoken to the man who was being treated at hospital and we don’t believe at this current time that anyone else was involved and nor do we believe there was a criminal offence, based on the information provided.
"Officers are supporting the man in hospital and continue to make enquiries to establish what happened."
