A MAN left his victim with a fractured skull and two bleeds on the brain after punching him outside a Hampshire pub, a court heard.

Aaron Lee Currie could have killed another man, warned a crown court judge.

The 31-year-old scaffolder landed a single punch knocking his victim to the ground outside the Old Farmhouse pub off Ringwood Road, Totton.

Prosecution barrister, John Upton, told how when police were called to the scene shortly after midnight, the victim was already being attended to by an ambulance crew.

He was described as having a bloody nose and a lump on the back of his head.

It was later discovered that he had suffered a fractured skull and multiple bleeds on the brain.

Southampton Crown Court heard that Currie, of Jackie Wigg Gardens, Totton, had been drunk at the time of the attack.

Furthermore, “He had been barred from that pub and actually a number of pubs. He was there in contravention of his bar,” Mr Upton added.

Currie had gone to the Old Farmhouse concerning an ex-girlfriend but been asked to leave by staff.

However, once outside, he attacked his victim who “fell backwards onto either concrete or stone” and was knocked unconscious.

Currie was charged with a single count of GBH to which he pleaded guilty.

Defending, Mark Florida-James, said that his client was genuinely remorseful and had been working seven days a week as a scaffolder.

Furthermore, he had saved money to pay his victim compensation for the incident on November 10, 2019.

At sentencing, Judge Nicholas Rowland said Currie’s victim had lost his driving licence following the attack.

He scolded him saying: “You could have killed him with that punch.”

Currie was jailed for 12-months, however, the sentence was suspended for two years.

He must pay £4,200 in compensation, do 120 hours of unpaid work and 12 rehabilitation activity days.
