A MAN has been arrested by police probing the theft of fuel worth more than £400.
He was detained after officers launched an investigation into three incidents of fuel theft at a petrol filling station at Dibden, near Hythe.
Posting on social media Waterside Cops said a suspect was identified from CCTV footage.
They added that enquiries in the Shore Road area of Hythe led them to a vehicle that had false plates and turned out to have been stolen in Salisbury in September.
The vehicle was taken away for forensic examination.
"Enquiries at a nearby address resulted in a male being arrested on suspicion of theft of fuel, theft of motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.
"He has been released under investigation whilst examinations are conducted on the vehicle."
