A DERELICT Southampton building could be torn down to make way for new supported living flats.

Plans have been lodged with the city council to knock down a building at 39 Belmont Road.

It would then be replaced with two blocks of flats with a total of 12 assisted living apartments, a communal lounge, an office and staff accommodation.

All new flats would be provided with gardens and amenity space along with cycle and bin storage facilities.

The units will be one-bedroom accommodation with sanitary and kitchen facilities.

Based on documents submitted to the local authority, the development would be run in a similar way to other forms of assisted living accommodation with shorthold leases secured through the provider for each tenant.

The plans made by Imperial Homes Southern Counties Ltd were submitted earlier this month and are awaiting a decision.
