PARTS of a busy Hampshire road are being closed overnight to enable the carriageway to be resurfaced.

The closures are part of an £8.1m scheme to improve the A326 - the road that separates the New Forest from the Waterside area.

Seven junctions are being upgraded ahead of major developments due to take place, including the 1,500-home Fawley Waterside scheme.

Developers are planning to build a new town on the former site of Fawley power station, most of which has already been demolished.

Three main roundabouts on the A326 are being closed overnight and resurfaced as part of the project.

Nightly closures of the Holbury roundabout began yesterday and will continue until tomorrow.

Hardley roundabout will be shut from tomorrow until Friday. Similar work at the Dibden roundabout will result in overnight closure between April 4 and April 8.

All the closures will be in place from 7pm until 6am. Diversions will be signed.
