A MAJOR Southampton road has been blocked close to the Itchen Bridge due to a building fire.
Emergency services have blocked Portsmouth Road between the Itchen Bridge roundabout and Station Road.
UPDATE: Road clear after fire broke out in derelict building
Traffic is now being allowed to pass through but only slowly and people are being advised to avoid the area.
In a tweet from Hampshire Roads Policing Unit, police said they are assisting with a "building fire".
Queues are building whilst emergency teams deal with the incident.

Two fire engines were spotted at around 7 am stopping at the site.
Southampton City Council's traffic team shared the news on social media.
Portsmouth Road, incident between Itchen Bridge Roundabout and Station Road - emergency services have blocked the road to deal with the incident, traffic is unable to pass at this time. Please avoid this area, queues are building.
