THE LINE-UP for a stage at a Platinum Jubilee festival in Southampton expected to attract 10,000 people has been announced.

An eight-piece band, dance group, and choir are among the acts taking to the Variety Stage at the Big Platinum Festival on June 5.

Organised by Unity 101 Community Radio in Southampton, the festival at Mayflower Park will boast a variety of performances, stalls, and activities to celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign.

Justine Graffeuil, Variety Stage manager, said: “The Variety Stage will feature great performers that will showcase their talent and uniqueness.

“I’m looking forward to seeing these wonderful acts put a smile on people’s faces, it’s going to be such a special moment after the past few years.

“People from every age and ethnicity will gather to celebrate the Queen, it’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience.

“I’m really grateful for being part of the organisation of it all.”

A range of entertainment can be enjoyed on the Variety Stage, the festival’s third stage.

Singer Olympia will rock the festival crowd with hits by Tina Turner and Whitney Houston while Kiz Connection dance the night away.

Hampshire-based En-Masse Choir will sing eight songs, including Shake Your Body and Life is a Highway.

Dance routines from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will also grace the stage.

A “riotous” and “rollicking” eight-piece show band, featuring a full horn will serve up a mix of bold, brassy soul, and rhythm and blues.

To entertain the crowd, UK comedian Adrian Doughty will present each act.

Festival organiser Dowayne Neufville of Gi Media LTD said: “We have so much talent in the city region, from performers, local street food sellers to arts and crafts, to name a few.

"This is a collective effort to not only showcase the region, but to also support of City of Culture bid.

"We don’t need to put Southampton on the map, it’s firmly on the map. We need to push to the surface and be proud of the many things people are doing in and around the city.”

The Big Platinum Festival will run from 10am to 9pm and visitors will be treated to a variety of entertainment and activities on the day.
