MORE than 200 homes and a scout hall could be built on farmland in a Hampshire borough under new plans.

Proposals have been submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council to build up to 221 homes on land east of Boorley Green.

Located on a 10-hectare site at Holly Tree Farm, plans include a new scout hall, access for vehicles, an emergency vehicle link, parking and play areas.

Submitted by Stratland Estates Limited, the application requests outline planning permission for the scheme which is based alongside the 1,400 home Boorley Park development and 100 homes based south of Maddoxford Lane.

Currently used for agricultural purposes, the site also has a scrap yard and car repair business on it.

The area is mostly surrounded by hedges and trees and includes an area of woodland that follows the valley of the River Hamble.

Of the homes, 25 per cent are proposed as affordable housing with more than half of these being available for rent, whilst 35 per cent of the affordable homes will be for shared ownership or shared equity.

The application states: “The site is greenfield but well related to the existing settlement pattern, including the permitted residential developments north and west of the site providing new homes, community facilities, open space along with highways and drainage infrastructure.”

It goes on to say that the development would promote biodiversity and would include the planting of new trees as well as creating new pedestrian and cycle links.

The homes are planned to be predominantly two-storey but some 2.5-storey homes and apartment blocks are proposed.

The streets will be enclosed by “cottage-style” detached and semi-detached homes.

The applicant adds: “Well designed, environmentally friendly homes have an important role to play in maintaining a sense of well-being and a good quality of life.

“For example, dwellings will be designed to enable good levels of natural daylight to help create a feeling of space and to promote healthier environments.

“Furthermore, all residents will have access to private external space in the form of gardens or communal space in the case of flats, a vital component of improved health.”

Residents are now being consulted on the scheme with a statutory decision date of August 15.
