POLICE are investigating after a large crowd of youths started acting anti-socially in a Hampshire village.

Officers say 50 people who congregated at Hamble Point on Friday evening were reported to be drinking and revving motorbike engines.

One person was said to be acting aggressively towards members of the public.

A police spokesperson said: "Around this time it was also reported that damage was caused to motorbikes on the High Street.

"Police also received reports that a smaller group of youths were being verbally abusive near Hamble lifeboat station.

"Individuals were also reportedly rocking the lifeboat pontoon railings, and the air dock containing the lifeboat.

"The local neighbourhoods team are working in the area this weekend and will be making enquiries to identify the key perpetrators.

"Under Operation Aquatic, we work closely with our partners including the harbourmaster and port authorities to explore the most appropriate method of addressing the concerns surrounding seasonal anti-social behaviour, and the safety risks posed to individuals who behave in this manner in and around the water.

"We will investigate any criminal offences reported to us, and encourage people to continue to report incidents to us so we can maintain a clear picture of the issues affecting the public."
