A DRUNKEN man urinated in a police van and kissed a female officer's hand after being arrested in a Southampton car park.

Orobio Cordoba Waldyn Camilo became "difficult, abusive and violent" after police arrived at West Quay Road and asked him to take a roadside breath test.

Southampton Crown Court heard that Waldyn Camilo was "argumentative and obnoxious from the start".

James Kellam, prosecuting, said the defendant assaulted two police officers, biting one on the hand and repeatedly stepping on the other one's foot.

When the van arrived he spat on the floor as well as urinating and vomiting in the vehicle.

Mr Kellam added: "He was just as obnoxious when he arrived at the police station.

"He made sexualised comments to female officers, suggesting they wanted to sleep with him. No one should have to listen to that sort of thing at work."

The court heard that the defendant also kissed a female officer's hand "very audibly".

Mr Kellam added: "I don't have any admissible evidence that he was driving. His account is that he went to his car to charge his phone and was waiting for his friend's father to give him a lift. He was clearly very drunk."

Chris Gaiger, mitigating, described his client as "extremely polite".

Referring to the events of June 4 this year he added: "He's appalled by his behaviour. He consumed far more alcohol than he'd been used to and has to live with that mistake."

Waldyn Camilo, 22, of St Helen's Parade, Southsea, had previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage, failing to provide a specimen of breath, and three counts of assault.

Judge Peter Henry told him: "From what I've read you're a decent young man, but you can't take your alcohol.

"You behaved appallingly that night. You were difficult, abusive and violent, although in the scheme of things the violence wasn't at the top end."

Waldyn Camilo was handed a 12-month community order for the three assaults, plus an identical penalty for criminal damage, and was also told to complete 120 hours of unpaid work. For failing to provide a specimen of breath he was banned from driving for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £150 compensation to each of the three officers he assaulted.
