EXTRA patrols have taken place outside a Southampton school after roof tiles were ripped off and used to smash windows.

Police in Lordswood say they have been keeping an eye on Oakwood Primary School and conducting nighttime patrols in the area.

It comes after the school was trashed on Monday night, marking the second time the site has been targeted.

As previously reported, those responsible gained access to the kitchen and began throwing flour around.

But it has now been revealed that tiles were "ripped" from the roof and thrown at windows, smashing the glass.

Posting on Facebook an officer: "A member of the public reporting smashing and banging coming from the school grounds.

"Officers from the Neighbourhood West Team swooped on the location within minutes of the first call but offenders had already left the site."

One of the smashed windows was located in the school hall where the Nativity play was set up for Year 1's performance the following morning.

Glass was strewn across the hall where the children were due to be sat with police even removing shards from inside the crib of the baby Jesus.

Staff cleared glass and made repairs and the play did later go ahead.

The police spokesperson added: "Weeks of work by year 1 students were so nearly ruined by this act of damage as the school may have cancelled the performance.

"We believe the persons responsible for the damage last night would have had baking flour on their shoes, likely to be Nike Air Jordan trainers.

"Perhaps the person or persons who have done this are reading and want to come forward, I’d like to hear from you.
