This is the moment a cyclist is almost knocked off his bike by a driver.

Nick Jones, 40, was riding his bike near Botley when he was almost run over by a motorist in a blue Hyundai Tucson.

Mr Jones was cycling along Wangfield Laneon on Boxing Day when the driver stopped the car right in front of him before trying to knock off his bike.

On the same street, another cyclist had to stop to make way for the blue Hyundai overtaking Mr Jones.

Speaking of those dramatic moments, the cyclist said: “There were lots of puddles on the road so I was riding in the middle of the road, avoiding the puddle.

“All of a sudden I hear this car coming up behind me and it’s revving higher than a car would normally rev.

“So, I did stick my hand out to say stop and slow down because there’s not enough room to overtake, but it did overtake.”

At first, Mr Jones, an experienced cyclist, didn’t think much of it as “these things happen all the time” to cyclists.

When the car started being driven dangerously close to him, he realised what was happening.

He said: “The way he was driving back and forth I think he would have gotten out of the car and that wasn’t the confrontation I wanted, so I just carried on.

“I don’t know what was going through his mind.”

Fortunately for Mr Jones, he did not sustain any injuries and did not report this to the police as he “has no faith in Hampshire Constabulary”.

He said: “You report the incident, and they say not to publish online, keep all your stuff and we’ll back to you in the next six weeks.

“Six weeks come and go and, the moment is gone, when and if they find the driver it’s too long to then remember anything.”

Asked for a response, Inspector Alex Dale of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit said the update on the Highway Code places more responsibility on drivers and riders to drive with consideration of others – including cyclists.

He added: “Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is committed to making our roads safer for all road users.

“We aim to investigate all incidents that are reported to us and exhaust all lines of enquiry available to us.

“I would urge anyone who has experienced harassment or abuse on our roads to contact us.”
