DEBRIS was left strewn across the road after a three-vehicle pile-up closed a Hampshire motorway.

Horrific pictures show what was left of a red car, flipped on its roof, in the middle of the M3's southbound carriageway.

Another photo from the scene shows car parts strewn across the hard shoulder and a silver car, also on its roof.

A car carrier, travelling on the northbound road, is said to have smashed through the central reservation and a vehicle was catapulted onto the other side.

Fire crews from Hartley Wintney, Fleet, Rushmore and Basingstoke rushed to the scene of the crash near Fleet shortly before 2pm yesterday.

No one was trapped inside, however, three people were treated by paramedics and oil was cleaned from the carriageway.

The road was closed by police as firefighters made the scene safe and cleared the motorway before standing down at around 2.15pm.
