PLANS have been submitted to return a fire-hit listed building to its former glory.

Swiss Cottage was severely damaged in a blaze that started at 7Bone Portswood last summer.

The Grade II-listed cottage's first floor and roof were partly destroyed.

Now plans have been revealed to restore the two-storey building "like for like".

A planning statement said: "This application is made to support a proposal to reinstate Swiss Cottage on a ‘like for like’ basis as best as practicably possible."

It added: "Some remedial works already undertaken have included structural timber rather than masonry due to health and safety concerns with tying the structure back.

"It is intended to return historic elements of the construction back where it once was.

"Lime mortar and render is proposed to new brick work and internal walls along with reinstating lath and plaster ceilings where previously found.

"Areas found to be constructed in modern methods/ materials are proposed to be reinstated in materials to match.

"Roofing works are to be constructed in cut timbers, utilising the existing timber where possible and safe to do so.

"The roof covering will be slate to match previous with scalloped/fish scale details."

Daily Echo:

Some 75 firefighters were called to tackle the fire on July 8 last year at the restaurant.

Around 17 people were evacuated when the blaze broke out just before 8pm.

Staff at 7Bone previously announced they were looking for a new location.

Jobs at the chain were saved when it went into administration late last year after the company suffered a cash crisis, in part brought on by trading being hit by the fire.

7Bone first opened in Southampton in 2013.

Trinity Rose Architecture has drawn up the plans to reinstate Swiss Cottage on behalf of the Ventnor-based applicant.
