A WOMAN attacked by a man was assaulted again after taking a selfie of her injuries, a court heard.

The alleged victim said the first assault left her nursing a black eye and another injury that required her to stuff rolled-up tissues into her mouth.

She also said she was sexually assaulted between the two other incidents, which are said to have occurred one evening last summer.

The complainant was giving evidence against Lewis Fox, who denies attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, making a threat to kill, assault by penetration, and attempted rape.

Southampton Crown Court heard that Fox turned violent after they argued over her messaging on a mobile phone.

Describing the impact of the first alleged assault the complainant said she suffered a black eye and was also left with "constant" bleeding from her mouth.

"I was rolling up tissues and putting them inside my mouth," she said. "I went through a lot of tissues."

The violence started again after she took a selfie of her earlier injuries and sent it to a friend, the court heard.

During one of the alleged assaults, Fox pushed her onto the floor and put his hands around her neck before suddenly stopping, jurors were told.

Cross-examined by Richard Martin, representing the defendant, she said: "He wasn't worried that he was going to kill me.

"He told me, while he had his hand around my neck, that he could kill me."

Judge Nicholas Rowland also questioned her about the allegations. She told him: "When he had his hands around my neck he said he was going to kill me."

Earlier Mr Martin suggested that the sexual activity that took place was "entirely consensual", which the complainant denied.

Fox, 31, of Stanley Road, Portsmouth, was in Southampton when the alleged incidents took place.

In a police video shown to the jury when the trial started on Monday, the woman said the defendant attacked her a second time after he saw her taking a photo of her injuries.

She added: "He was hitting me a lot harder and he was slapping me on my face and back."

Timothy Moores, prosecuting, said she ran naked from the building and hid in bushes before calling for help. He added that she suffered "serious facial trauma", plus cuts and bruises all over her body.

The trial continues.
