Awash in hot pink, everyone wants a slice of the Barbie movie mania.

The highly awaited blockbuster starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling burst onto our screens yesterday - and with it, fuchsia-hued foods have swept the world.

To celebrate the release of the film, Café Thrive, Southampton’s well-loved vegan café, turned its specials menu pink.

And pink is no understatement.

If you’re searching for your next big sip, the café’s Malibu Barbie Shake (obviously pink) is your perfect choice, or, for something healthier, the Pink Dream Bowl – a large salad topped with pink dressing.

But what really took Southampton by storm was the unveiling of the café’s toweringly impressive Barbie burger.

A shockingly pink spectacle, the burger is vegan 'meaty' patty topped with pickled pink onions, pink garlic mayo, beetroot hummus and hash brown in a bright pink bun.

If I am a compass, Café Thrive is north – so I knew I had to try it.

At first glance, I was apprehensive. From the pictures shared online by the café, I felt unnerved by the copious amount of pink garlic mayo slathered on the burger.

It seemed like a step too far in the pink direction – I could handle the bun, but the pink drippings made me apprehensive.

Regardless, I made my order and anxiously anticipated its arrival.

I looked on at those ordering the Barbie milkshake in envy as I waited, until I saw the large pink burger heading my way.

Thankfully, there was minimal pink sauce but the burger was not lacking in any other areas.

Much like the elaborate stories I would make my Barbies play out as a child, the burger was packed.

The ‘meat’ patty was juicy and well complemented by the onions and beetroot hummus.

One thing you can always expect with Café Thrive is that the food will be exceptionally fresh, and the Barbie burger was no exception.

Unsure about the hash brown wedged between the bun and the burger, I bit tentatively.

But I was pleasantly surprised by the addition and continued eating with gusto.

After a fierce 15-minute battle of myself vs the burger, I came out the other side victorious, bar the scraps of pink bun and slice of cucumber I purposefully abandoned.

The Barbie burger is a visual confection, and it does not disappoint when it comes to flavour.

Just don’t be perturbed by the colour.

The Barbie specials are available at Café Thrive until Sunday.
