Southampton is set to have a wrestling superstar tussle in the city for the first time since 2003.

Former World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) sensation Scotty 2 Hotty will headline an event on Friday, November 17.

The former WWE tag team champion makes a rare south coast appearance as part of his five-week European tour when he appears at Oasis Academy in Mayfield, Sholing

Scotty – real name Scott Garland – joined the WWE in 1997 before his career took off in 1999, when he became a member of the popular tag team ‘Too Cool’ – teaming up with Rikishi.

The popular star from Florida will have to be at his best as he takes on a wily veteran of wrestling The Prince of Mumbai in the evening main event showdown, where he’s sure to use his signature finishing move – ‘The Worm.’

There will also be special meet and greets available as fans can meet Scotty 2 Hotty for autographs, questions, and pictures on the night.

Garland’s appearance at Oasis Mayfield will be the first time a former WWE wrestler has appeared in Southampton in 20 years, according to event organisers Kapow Wrestling.

In 2003, The Honky Tonk Man and The Bushwhackers performed at an event at Guildhall Square.

The star-studded event starts at 7pm on Friday, November 17, with doors opening at 6.30pm.

Tickets can be purchased from kapowwrestling.co.uk

WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion which bills itself as 'the recognized global leader in sports entertainment'.

The wrestling matches differ from regular wrestling in that they are pre-choreographed and more akin to theatre than sport.

Some of the stars to have come out of the brand include Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and John Cena.

WWE renamed itself in the early 2000s from World Wrestling Federation to avoid confusion with the World Wide Fund for Nature.
