A Doctor Who superfan will appear on Bargain Hunt this week with two lifesize Daleks.

Chris Balcombe will feature in a special edition of the popular daytime show celebrating the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who.

Chris, from Dibden Purlieu, travelled – unfortunately, not by Tardis – to Llanelli in South Wales for the programme.

Here he showcased two of his three Daleks, one of which is believed to be the oldest surviving BBC Dalek prop.

Speaking about the experience, Chris, 63, said: “The middle section of my original Dalek is from what's thought to be the very first Dalek built back in 1963.

“The skirt section - covered in hemispheres - is from another Dalek made for the show in 1965.

“There isn't enough space inside for me to operate that one, so I took along my replica 1970's Dalek, which starred in a TV and film advert for KitKat back in 2001.

“Climbing in and pushing it along with my feet wasn't as easy as I remember.

"I have a microphone linked to a voice modulator so the crackling Dalek voice I barked out was recorded live, as I glided after Eric Knowles, the show host.”

During the programme, Eric interviews Chris about his vast Doctor Who collection.

Some of the props in his repertoire date back to the show’s early days - including alien outfits and robot masks.

Chris also took along his original 1970's 'Voc Robot' head and tunic, worn in 'The Robots Of Death' with Tom Baker playing the Doctor Eric, who grabbed his scarf and sonic screwdriver for the episode.

Eric, who grabbed his scarf and sonic screwdriver for the episode, said: “It was wonderful to see Chris’s amazing Doctor Who collection and to have the opportunity to dress up as a Doctor and escape into a TARDIS.

“Having watched the first episode of Doctor Who as a 10-year-old in 1963, it's great to be celebrating Doctor Who's anniversary on Bargain Hunt and sharing the love of this beloved programme with two teams of super fans.

“Over its long life, treasures of all kinds based on the series can be found, making it the perfect theme for a special episode.”

The Doctor Who Bargain Hunt episode will air on BBC1 this Thursday at 12.15pm, and will also be available on iPlayer for a month.
