Police have issued an update after a house was badly damaged in a blaze.

Firefighters rushed to what was described at the time as a fire in a garden outside a property on Bitterne Road West at around 2.30pm on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

When fire crews arrived at the garden fire, it became clear the blaze had spread to the roof of the property.

Police confirmed at the time that the resident of the premises, a man in his 70s, was not injured in the alleged attack.

Eight months on from the blaze, the building sits abandoned with tiles on the roof missing.

Police released an appeal to find three children - aged between 12 and 16 - believed to have started the blaze two days after it broke out.

Officers also launched an appeal to speak to anyone in the Bitterne Road West and Steuart Road areas who has CCTV or Ring doorbell footage that may have captured something.

Hampshire Police have now issued an update to the Daily Echo on the situation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “All lines of enquiry have now been exhausted in this case and as such the investigation has been filed pending further lines of enquiry becoming available.

“Any new information that comes to light will be reviewed and investigated as appropriate.”

At current, the property has a Southampton County Court notice on the door with the notice entitled: “Claim form for possession of property.”

The form states that the landlord of the Bitterne Road West home is seeking to re-claim possession of the derelict building.

The defendant is known only as “The occupiers”.

With more than eight months passing from the blaze, it is currently unclear as to who the occupiers are.
