Work to install traffic calming measures in Spring Road due to be completed in eight weeks has now entered into a tenth week.
The work was needed after a number of high-profile crashes at the junction of Station Road and Spring Road, in Sholing, sparking a petition calling on the council to make the stretch of roadway safer.
The roadworks have yet to be completed 10 weeks after work on the site first began with an eight-week estimate.
Southampton City Council has said a delay with ‘specialised materials’ needed to complete the works will affect when the junction is reopened.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing delays with specialised materials for works at the Spring Road and Station Road junction which will affect our ability to re-open the junction.

The spokesperson said a key element to the work was only started on Monday and will take two weeks to complete.
The junction will then reopen, the spokesperson said.
To ensure the project isn’t delayed further, the final phase of the work – installing a raised table including a pedestrian crossing point adjacent to Miller’s Pond – will be completed in conjunction with the resurfacing work at the junction with Station Road.
The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience whilst this work is ongoing, and for their understanding.”
