A Southampton man accused of throwing a drinks can at police during a violent protest over Henry Nowak has appeared in court.

Kamil Josef Klonek, 33, of Lordswood Road, Southampton, is charged with violent disorder but did not enter a plea at Southampton Magistrates' Court this morning.

Klonek is accused of throwing a drink can at the police during the protests that took place on June 2.

They came after the sentencing of student Henry Nowak’s killer, sparked by anger over police actions in arresting and handcuffing him as he lay dying.

Christiane Finley, prosecuting, said hundreds of people took part in the protest.

Klonek's solicitor, Peter Gotch, said the can landed on the ground and was not thrown directly at police officers.

District Judge Henry Gordon remanded the defendant in custody to appear at Southampton Crown Court on Thursday, when he is expected to enter a plea.

So far 20 people have been charged over the disorder. More are due to appear at magistrates' court this afternoon.

Henry's killer Vickrum Digwa, 23, of St Denys Road, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years.
