An opening partnership of 167 between Patrick Pritchard and Stewart Magee laid the foundations for a huge win for Compton at OTs & Romsey in Hampshire County Division 2.

The pair immediately set out to dominate the home bowling with some sparkling strokeplay. Pritchard looked sure to reach three figures, but chopped one onto his stumps for 92. Magee, though, was not to be denied and hit three sixes on his way to a superb maiden league century. When he was finally dismissed for 109, Andy Gorty (21no) and Darren Davis (21) provided the final impetus to see the visitors to a massive 285 for 7.

When Romsey batted, Adam Brown proved almost unplayable with seven maidens in his eight overs and he ripped the heart out of the top order with 3 for 5.

Russ Dearlove chipped in with a wicket and when Brody Clarke's direct hit took out another, Romsey's effort was all but finished at 8 for 5.

A brief recovery was ended by Andy Gorty's off spin leaving veteran spinner Martin Dearlove (4-11) to complete Romsey's misery and give Compton a club record victory margin of 248 runs - and, more importantly, 24 points!
