TRIBUTES have been paid to an 11-year-old Hampshire schoolboy who died suddenly on a family holiday in Greece.

Harvey Ashworth, of Fleet End Road, Warsash, passed away from natural causes in his sleep, his family said.

His father, Luke Ashworth, who is the managing director of Fareham IT company Netbasics, has written on an Internet tribute page that Harvey “went to sleep very happy” on the night he died.

Harvey played cricket, hockey and competed in cross-country running at independent school West Hill Park, near Titchfield.

He was also a rugby fan and regularly went to see England matches at Twickenham.

More than 150 people have joined the tribute forum, which was set up by Harvey’s brother, Matt Griffin.

His classmates have sent messages saying he was “the best mate to everyone” and “a brilliant person”.

His mum, Trisha Scott, posted: “Thank you to all the lovely comments and memories that you hold for our precious son Harvey.

“As his mum I cannot tell you how proud I am of him and the amount that he achieved in such a short space of time.

“Your enthusiasm to achieve greater things in life will always be missed.

“Your drive to be a success in everything you did is a great loss to this world and it just doesn’t make sense why you were taken from us.”

Another friend commented: “He loved his rugby and always played with an intensity that was far above his years, he was always the first one to say well done and offer a hug to his team mates.

“In truth Harvey could teach us all about friendship.” His headteacher, Alastair Ramsay, said yesterday that Harvey was a “charming boy” and was “full of enthusiasm”.

He added: “He’s performed in some of our school plays, he’s played in all of our school sport teams and was a credit to the school and to his family.

“He was a very determined boy and so could always be relied on to give absolutely 100 per cent.”

Harvey's funeral will take place at 11am on Wednesday, August 3 in St Peter’s Church, Titchfield, followed by a Celebration and Memories event at West Hill Park.

Harvey’s family has asked people to wear funeral dress and pink shoelaces – a reference to the youngster’s favourite trainers.

Donations in his memory should be made to Naomi House hospice, which Harvey used to fundraise for, via AJ Freemantle, 16 Middle Road, Park Gate or on justgiving.com/harvey-ashworth.
