A SOUTHAMPTON man has been living in 'mayhem' after a 'gang of hooligans flipped' over his car.

A Bassett resident found his vehicle turned on its side outside his home in Vermont Close off Winchester Road.

The 26-year-old delivery driver, who wished to remain unnamed, said he was alerted to the mishap by a gathering crowd.

Damages to the 2014 Smart car include a broken wing mirror, a crushed door handle, and scratches across its side.

Its owner said: "I am still upset and just shocked people would do this.

"Whoever did this has no idea how much trouble they have brought on me.

"I depend on this car to get to work and to use for work as a delivery driver.

"My insurance premium will go up and I will lose weeks of pay that I really need especially in these times of high living costs and inflation.

"The insurance company also said the car may be potentially written off due to them not being able to find parts for it.

"I live in a quiet residential area it's mostly families and small children. I never really thought that this sort of thing would happen around here.

"My car was parked across the road from where I live and behind the bushes so it's not really too visible from the other roads.

"I called the police the moment I saw my car but they said they were not sending anyone and nobody came."

He believes the incident is connected with previous cases of cars being flipped over in Millbrook after spotting fingerprints on the bottom of his vehicle.

He said that despite the gathering of people who spotted the car flipped over no one saw the incident occur.

He said: "I walked out and all these people were already congregating around this spectacle.

"They were standing there asking whose car this is and what happened and I just said it was mine.

"I spoke with multiple bystanders including a local leaf collector and councilman who told me they had seen this sight since at least 6.30am.

"This behaviour is appalling and absolutely unacceptable."

A spokesperson from the Hampshire Constabulary said an investigation into the incident is underway but is currently in its "very early stages."

They said: "This is still being investigated at the moment but it is very early days and though the previous incidents have been mentioned by the victim we are not in a position to say if they are linked at this stage but will no doubt be looking into if it may be."
