Recent history doesn’t make for good reading for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, with Saints collecting just one point and a goal difference of -13 in the last SEVEN meetings.
The last time Saints beat West Ham was in August 2017, after Charlie Austin’s last-minute penalty earned all three points in a closely-run 3-2 affair at St Mary’s.
Saints had taken a 2-0 lead but ten-man Hammers were able to pull it back and all-but rescue a point, but for the injury time intervention – even the only win in eight wasn’t plain sailing.

This result meant top-half Saints had kept five clean sheets in their last seven home Premier League games. However, they’d only keep one more for the whole of the remaining campaign after New Years Day.

Michael Obafemi had scored in the first half to equalise Jarrod Bowen’s effort, but Sebastian Haller and the current Hammers threat Michail Antonio saw to it that Hasenhuttl’s side were dispatched. It was one of Haller’s seven goals that season.

Nathan Redmond looked to bring some cheer in this festive St Mary’s fixture, when he opened 50 minutes into the contest. By the 60th minute, Saints found themselves 1-2 down thanks to a Felipe Anderson double-salvo.

The first Marko Arnautovic brace, this time adding to a Joao Mario opener against a defensive pairing of Wesley Hoedt and Jack Stephens.
19 Aug 2017 Southampton 3-2 West Ham United W Premier League
Saints’ last victory over West Ham – never passing a Saints fixture without event, Marko Arnautovic was actually sent off just over midway through the first half. That and giving away two penalties which were scored by Dusan Tadic and Charlie Austin, the last-minute winner, handed Saints the win. Manolo Gabbiadini opened just 11 minutes into the contest.
