Southampton's 80s themed music festival gets go ahead
4:34pm Friday 14th February 2014 in News
A FAMILY-FRIENDLY festival in Southampton has been given the green light.
Bosses at Let’s Rock! had applied to the city council for a licence for the 80s-themed event on July 12.
They were due to meet with the council’s licensing committee yesterday to thrash out the details of their licence.
But after an agreement was reached with the authority’s licensing officers, there was no need for the application to go before the committee.
That means the festival – which will feature the likes of Billy Ocean, Tony Hadley and Bananarama – will go ahead as planned on the Common.
Their licence means that the event will be held from 11am to 10.30pm, while alcohol will be served between 11.30am and 10pm.
A portion of takings will go towards Child Bereavement UK due to a charity partnership with the organisers.
One resident living near to the site at the southern end of the Common had objected to the plans, saying it could create “excessive” noise.
Tickets for the event are on sale now at letsrocksouthampton.co.uk.
