THE Environment Agency has issued more than 70 flood warnings for the south amid fears that river levels will continue to rise.

Despite the sudden improvement in the weather, large parts of Hampshire continue to be at risk as rivers react to recent downpours.

And more heavy rain forecast for tomorrow means the risk of flooding will continue to increase.

The 71 flood warnings issued today affect a large number of communities in southern Hampshire, including Wickham, Winchester and Romsey. Parts of Botley, Bishop's Waltham and Alresford are also said to be at risk.

The ferocious storms of the past few days are continuing to cause traffic chaos across the south.

No trains are running between Romsey and Salisbury because a fallen tree has blocked the line.

A South West Trains spokesman said: “An estimate for the resumption of normal services will be provided as soon as the problem has been properly assessed.”

Bad weather has also resulted in the cancellation of rail services between Brockenhurst and Lymington Pier.

And no trains are running between Fareham and Eastleigh following a landslip caused by flooding in the Botley area.

Motorists are also having their journeys disrupted.

Dodwell Lane in Hedge End has been closed by fallen power lines and a large amount of shingle from the beach has been dumped on the road between Exbury and Lepe by ferocious winds.
