POLICE have named a couple who died when their car crashed on a Hampshire road.

Barry Janes, 70 and his wife Shirley were in their red Ford Fusion car travelling along the A34 at Three Maids Hill when it left the carriageway and ended up on its roof.

Police say they have yet to establish what caused the vehicle to leave the road.

Tributes to the couple, who lived in Fareham, have been led by family members.

In a joint statement they said: “We are shocked and devastated to have lost our mum and dad, nanny and grandad in this way, who meant so much to us all as a family.

“We feel so lucky to have shared our life with them and they will be sorely missed.”

Police are still very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident that happened at 6.38pm on Monday, to help them build a clear picture of what happened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact PC 44972 Matthew Clayton at Whitchurch Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting Operation Agate.
