Students urged to meet funding deadline

SOUTHAMPTON students are being urged to apply for their funding now to ensure it is in place for the start of next term.

The deadline for new students to submit their loan applications is May 30, while students continuing their studies should reapply by June 27.

Last year more than a third of students applied late for their funding and many waited until they had started university to apply for their finance.

Derek Ross, director of operations at Student Finance England, said: “Students need to make sure they’ve got their applications in by the deadline so they’re not left short at term start.

“It takes at least six weeks to process an application so if students get their applications and evidence in early, they can budget more easily and plan ahead for accommodation, travel costs and buying course books.”
