MORE than 1,400 boat enthusiasts flocked to an event that showcased many of the leading marine companies in the south.

Hamble Point Marina hosted a two-day show featuring more than 250 new and used boats for sale, plus a wide range of other attractions.

A series of practical workshops with local Royal Yachting Association members gave members of the public a chance to try their hand at preparing a vessel for the sea.

There were also a number of on-water boat displays, rigging demonstrations, a boat jumble and racing from members of the Hamble River Sailing Club, as well as face-painting and other activities for younger visitors.

More than 80 firms, including dozens of companies from Hampshire, had stalls and a chance to show off their wares.

They ranged from yacht manufacturers and marine breakdown firms to companies developing the latest in maritime technology and sailing schools.

A number of new and used boats, cruisers and rigid inflatable boats were also on sale.

More than £2,000 was raised throughout the event for the Sail 4 Cancer charity set up by a group of sailors to provide support and respite for families affected by cancer.

And more than 2,000 out-of-date flares were handed in as part of an amnesty.
