A groups of pensioners, known as the Rocky Rollers, got on their mobility scooters to raise money for babies in special care.

The nine OAPs raised cash for the special care baby unit in Southampton General Hospital, and the neonatal unit at Portsmouth Hospital.

They left other traffic in their wake as they rode from Waterlooville to Havant on their annual charity event, raising £1,100 to be split between the two charities.

Victoria Greenshields, fundraising manager, said: “This is the fourth year the Rocky Rollers have done this ride and we are very grateful that they are supporting Southampton Hospital Charity and the special care baby unit in Southampton.

“In February of this year we refurbished the family waiting area at Princess Anne Hospital for the parents and family members of our special care babies.

“The money from the Rocky Rollers will go towards putting additional provisions into the family lounge such as a water dispenser and some other home comforts to benefit them while their babies are in our care.”
