A HAMPSHIRE Navyman who was exposed to asbestos on warships was killed by cancer, an inquest heard.
David Barclay, 74, of Cutlers Lane, Stubbington, contracted mesothelioma after stints on vessels including HMS Victorious.
The electrical engineer, who died on February 15, was exposed to asbestos dust when HMS Bulwark was revamped in the 1970s, Winchester Coroner’s Court was told.
He also received “significant” exposure whilst on the Victorious in 1964, said central Hampshire deputy coroner Simon Burge.
