Police stormed a house as a stand off came to a dramatic end in a Hampshire neighbourhood.

Hampshire police sealed off most of Bellfield Road in Titchfield and were there for more than three and a half hours while they negotiated with a man inside a house.

Ambulance crews were put on standby but did not attend.

Officers taped off most of the road and warned the public not to cross it for their own safety.

At least five police vehicles attended the scene including dog units, and armed police officers could be seen on the other side of the cordon.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Police can confirm a 45-year-old man was arrested and released without charge following an incident at an address in Bellfield, Titchfield.

"Officers responded after concerns for the safety of a man in a house on his own at around 7.45pm last night, Monday, April 25.

"Specialist officers spoke to the man who then came out.

"Officers say this was an isolated and self contained incident which posed no risk to anyone else."

Police were heard negotiating with a man inside the property and at around 11pm, officers appeared to have stormed the house as shouts of "clear! clear!" could be heard and sounds of a man shouting and moaning.

However, a neighbour said the man came out on his own and that he has been a “lovely” neighbour.

Police then left the area at around 11.30pm.

A resident in the neighbourhood said: "We didn't see anything but our daughter called us and said there are armed police outside your house."

Another resident said: "I came back at about 8pm and the police were here.

"This doesn't normally happened, nothing like this has happened in the two years I have been here."
