"HOW many more times is this going to happen?"

That is the question worried Southampton residents are asking on a street plagued by drivers smashing into parked cars.

The latest episode happened on Friday night and saw three parked cars badly damaged after a motorist ploughed into them.

Residents in Archery Road, Woolston spoke of their shock after the incident.

For Iwona Ostrowska, the incident - which saw her Ford Fiesta suffer severe side damage - happened a year after her Audi was written off in similar circumstances.

The 32-year-old mum-of-one said: "I spoke to the police about what we can do, our neighbours are not very happy at all.

"It is not normal that it has happened two times in a year, it seems like the road is not safe."

Another driver affected was 23-year-old Matt Doulton. He said: "I was shocked, they had hit two cars up the road and my car."

He said he stopped the driver from running away from the scene before he was arrested.

Dad-of-four Justin Cardy, 44, says there needs to be action taken by council chiefs or police on that section of Archery Road.

Mr Cardy says his dad's car was struck last year, and he has modified his driveway to ensure none of his family park their vehicles on the road as he fears they will be damaged.

Mr Cardy said: "Next door to us they had their car written off 12 months ago, it has happened so many times. It is not funny.

"It is a 30mph road but we see cars going between 60 to 70 mph down here because it is a straight road. Most people do obey the limit but some don't.
"I modified the driveway so we do not park out there because there have been so many incidents.

"We could do with some traffic calming measures."

Linton Hickman, whose black Volkswagen Golf was damaged at the front, said he feels the road is becoming a "danger spot".

Hampshire Constabulary said in a statement: "Police were called at about 9.30pm regarding a road traffic incident in Archery Road, Southampton, in which a vehicle collided with three parked vehicles."

John Gary Smith, 41, of Kingsclere Avenue, Southampton, has been charged with driving a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the limit, and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.

Smith is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on November 15.
