Cortese: No Need For Pochettino To Rush Into Leaving Saints

Daily Echo: Mauricio Pochettino Mauricio Pochettino

Former Saints executive chairman Nicola Cortese believes manager Mauricio Pochettino should not rush into leaving St Mary's.

Pochettino, out of contract next summer, has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Tottenham.

Cortese, who resigned in January, said: "I don't know what has happened since I left, so it is difficult for me to judge whether he (Pochettino) potentially wants to leave or whether the offer from another club is really that good.

"But he is ambitious and rightly so. When you plan a career, it is important to make the right decision at the right time.

"Often we have maybe seen people take too quick a step which ultimately backfires.

"But he has to make his own decision. He is a young manager. He has plenty of time to have a great career."

NC says the following, suggesting he will be back in the Prem soon:

"I know I will get into running a football club. I can't tell you the details at this moment. I am in Milan because I like Milan, but everyone who knows me knows I am most interested in the Premier League."

That's a possible scenario. Of course, we won't be able to confirm it as a fact until the Daily Mail runs with something like:

FORMER SAINTS CHIEF TO TAKE OVER AT VILLA
Former Southampton CEO, Nicola Cortese, is rumoured to be interesting potential investors who might be keen on a buy-out at Villa Park. We understand that sources close to Cortese might have overheard a phone call in which he mentioned Villa. However, a close confidant in Milan suggested that he was referring to his villa in Corfu. One of our reporters did manage to get an answer from Milan which said, 'Yes, I'm buying Villa'. However, there is strong speculation that our hack got the wrong end of the stick and, when asked to contact Milan, rang Milan Mandaric by mistake.

BetFred latest Villa buy-out odds: Cortese 2/1 Mandaric 5/1 Katharina Liebherr 30/1 Paul-Michael Glazier 2,000/1
