Hampshire have to win their last three group games to have a chance of reaching the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals after tonight’s abandonment at The Ageas Bowl.

Sean Terry hit his second fifty in three days as Hampshire made 249 after winning the toss, but torrential rain meant Northants’ reply never began.

Opening the batting, Terry followed the career-best 63 he made at No.7 in a losing cause against Leicestershire 48 hours earlier with a 66-ball 53, including three fours and two sixes over long-on.

Hampshire would have hoped to set Northants more than 250, having been 182-3 when the five-over batting powerplay began at the beginning of the 36th, after their top six all made starts, with Will Smith (59) top scoring.

A share of the points means Hampshire can still finish in the top four but they will have to beat Worcestershire at The Ageas Bowl on Monday and Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday to have a chance going into their last game at home to leaders Yorkshire on August 21.
