SMALL businesses are the lifeblood of the economy.

From high street traders to innovative start-ups they provide employment, economic growth and consumer choice.

Some will become the corporate giants of the future.

Leading small firms with a workforce of up to 50 will be put in the spotlight at the 2012 South Coast business Awards The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, which represents hundreds of small firms around the county, is sponsoring the small Business of the year award.

This award will be presented to a dynamic company which demonstrates all round excellence in business.

The judging will focus on financial performance, future objectives and the competitive advantage of the business. It will also look at examples of specific strategies which have driven business growth.

Chamber director of operations Maureen Frost said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Small Business of the Year again this year. Our smaller businesses often do not get the recognition they deserve and last year these awards identified a wealth of unsung heroes and local success stories.

“We look forward to celebrating further small business success this year and to seeing their achievements showcased to provide inspiration to others”.
