A CAMPER was taken to hospital after a caravan caught fire in the New Forest last night.

Eleven firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze at the Setthorns campsite between Brockenhurst and New Milton, at about 2am.

The occupant of the caravan, a man aged about 30, was taken to hospital suffering from burns to his arms, legs and feet, an ambulance spokesman said.

The fire detsroyed the caravan and awning and spread to a nearby Peugeot car.

There were also fears gas cyclinders could have exploded.

Police were due to investigate the scene of the fire this morning but a spokesman said it did not appear to be suspicious.
