Mark Thompson on Moors Valley on getting yourself and your bike road-ready...

Having dusted your old bike down or bought that ‘bargain’ on e bay, there are a few tips you can follow so that cycling will be a pleasant experience.

  • Put the saddle to the right height. A saddle that is too low makes cycling really hard work. The way to set it at the right height is to sit on the saddle and with the ball of your foot on the pedal there should be a slight bend in your knee.
  • Pump up your tyres. Having the right pressure makes pedalling easier, helps prevents punctures and reduces the wear on the tyre.
  • Get to know how to use your gears, so that hills don’t become mountains!
  • Make sure the brakes work properly
  • Choose an area where there are predominately traffic free trails.
  • If you need some support, call Moors Valley and ask about cycle coaching and led rides.
