THE Hampshire Schoolgirls Cross Country Championships on January 18, 1975, saw hundreds of youngsters take to the fields of the Southampton Sports Centre to compete.
Clare Strickland ran against the stiffest competition from Southampton, Portsmouth and Aldershot, bagging herself a sixth-place finish and landing a spot in the Hampshire team.
She went on to represent the county in the English Schools Championships at Surrey in March that year.
