IT’S one of Britain’s iconic symbols and wrote its name into history during the Battle of Britain.
And the much-loved Spitfire is back in the public eye again to mark its 80th anniversary.
One of the planes flew across Southampton earlier today and two similar events are planned for Saturday morning and afternoon.
To celebrate eight decades since the first Spitfire was produced the Daily Echo has put together an 80-photo gallery for readers.
