FOR decades they have ferried Sotonians from A to B, making sure they get to work in the morning and home in the evening.
More than a century has passed since the first buses and trams were introduced to Southampton, with the Southampton Tramways Company operating routes around the city from 1879 onwards.
Over the decades the face of transport changed as the town council took over the company, which became Southampton Corporation Transport, before the company was sold by the city council to FirstGroup in 1997.
But despite all of the changes over the year, trams may be making a reappearance, with city council leader Simon Letts keen to introduce a new route between Southampton and Portsmouth through the ongoing devolution negotiations.
